The Company studies relevant standards, technical requirements, professional guidance, operational practices and other appropriate sources when developing its documented assessment schemes. Where appropriate, these schemes may combine requirements from several reference sources with additional criteria developed by the Company for the particular subject or sector.
This approach enables an assessment to examine a subject from a broader range of defined perspectives than an assessment limited solely to one published standard, while clearly identifying the criteria actually applied.

Through the Lloyds Universal Certificate Division, the Company reviews information and supporting evidence against the documented criteria and requirements of the relevant assessment scheme. The subject of the assessment, required evidence, assessment method, certification scope, validity period and conditions for renewal, suspension or withdrawal are defined in the applicable scheme rules.
Depending on the nature of the application, an assessment may include the review of identity and legal status, professional and training records, licences and supporting documents, management arrangements, operational processes, product or service characteristics, and evidence submitted by the applicant.
Where appropriate, national or international standards, statutory requirements and recognised industry guidance may be used as reference sources when developing the assessment criteria. Additional proprietary criteria may also be incorporated to address matters beyond the selected reference requirements. All applicable criteria must be identified in the relevant scheme documentation.
Following completion of the assessment and an independent certification decision, the outcome may be issued as a professional profile certificate, information registration certificate, certificate of completion, assessment report, or certificate of conformity with a proprietary Company scheme.
Each certificate must identify the certificate holder, issuing body, applicable scheme and version, certified scope, issue and expiry dates, certificate status and a unique online verification code.

Statement on the Scope and Status of Certificates
Certificates issued by the Company record the outcome of an assessment conducted within the scope and against the criteria of the applicable proprietary scheme. They do not, by themselves, replace statutory licences, academic qualifications, governmental approvals, authorised laboratory reports or accredited ISO certification unless the certificate expressly identifies the relevant accreditation body and provides an independently verifiable accreditation reference.
The availability of services to applicants in different countries does not guarantee automatic acceptance of a certificate by governments, educational institutions, employers, regulators or professional bodies. Certificate holders are responsible for confirming the requirements of the receiving organisation before relying on a certificate for a specific purpose.
